If you smoke, learn the smoking policy of the hotel where you are staying. Some have rooms for smokers. Therefore, if you are a smoker, always ask for a room that allows smoking. If you smoke in one of the hotel’s non-smoking room, you can be charged hefty fees.

If you will be needing a rollaway or a crib, alert the hotel to this fact when making your reservation. Not every hotel will give you this sort of thing, and the ones that do are in limited quantities. In addition, there is sometimes an extra charge for these items. Talk about what you need when booking your room so you are not unpleasantly surprised.

Check to see if the hotel allows pets. If you’re allergic to pets or fear them, then you may want to avoid hotels that allow pets. These hotels could have weird odors because of smells getting into the linens and the floor. Don’t decide you need new linens as you are sitting in your hotel room. You may really like those towels, pillowcases and washcloths, but their absence will not go unnoticed. You will be billed for them. If you find you really like these items, then ask the hotel if you could purchase them instead.
